About me
I’m Chanda, a writer focusing on the intersection of politics, culture, and identity.
In my newsletter, Ok So Hear Me Out…, I examine these topics through a personal lens—challenging conventional narratives and encouraging readers to take action in their everyday lives. To me, the political is personal. My goal is deepen people’s understanding of why every political decision, big to small, matters and how we move forward.
My career spans work at the NYC Mayor’s Office, Human Rights Watch, law firms, the United Nations, and Congress to name a few. Currently, I’m the Communications Director for Common Justice, the first alternative-to-incarceration program in the U.S. focusing on adult violent felonies. Along the way, I’ve led communications on key issues like gun violence, international conflicts, gender equity, press freedom, mass incarceration, workers’ rights, civil rights, and so much more. I also co-founded a gender equity organization called, The Reclaim, in 2019.
I bring my lived expertise to my writing, which I gained through ten years of grassroots advocacy experience. My goal is spark conversations and use my experience to build bridges to new ideas and perspectives.
My bylines include The New York Times, and I’ve written and placed stories in The Washington Post, CNN, Essence, New York Daily News, and more. I’ve also been featured in Vox and The Washingtonian Magazine.
